In the autumn of 2012, the Climate CoLab ran 18 contests, each focused on a challenge the world is facing as we confront climate change. From nearly 400 submissions, 28 proposals were chosen as winners by our expert teams of judges and by the Climate CoLab community. All winners presented at the MIT Crowds & Climate Conference, November 6-8, 2013. Mr Konrad Ritter, Board Member of WEnergy Global, and Ms Diann Black-Layne won the Popular Choice with their proposal From the Crowd to the Base: Crowdfunding for Local Climate Action / C2B Crowd-to-Base: Crowdfunding channelled through Microfinance gives urban and rural poor access to renewable energy to transform lives. Their proposal was submitted within the contest of Scaling Renewables in Major Emerging Economies: How can renewable technologies be rapidly deployed in the major emerging economies?
