Konrad von Ritter

Konrad von Ritter, co-founder of WEnergy Global, brings in over 30 years of experience in Sustainable Development Finance, of which 20 years with the World Bank Group, including as founder of the Climate Change Practice at the World Bank Institute (WBI). He continued with advisory activities in the area of Cities & Climate Change and Climate Finance, including advisory work on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMA) and smart energy policies. As a project leader he helped introduce economic instruments in environmental management in the Philippines, started up the first Ozone Depleting Substances phase out projects in Malaysia and Thailand, and served as the economist for the China Shandong Urban Environment project. He authored the study on Russia’s Environmental Impact Assessment Capacity. He is an Independent Expert in Crowdfunding for Climate Change and author of a paper on ‘Crowdfunding for Climate Change – A new source of finance for climate action at the local level?’ (2013). Currently, he serves Volt Europe as a Board Director; he was the Co-founder of Volt Germany and created the Volt Academy Policy Learning Programme. He has worked in Asia, Latin America, and Europe and holds a Masters Degrees in Economics and in Political Science from the FU Berlin, Germany; he has been trained by the German Development Institute (DIE); and has a certificate for an Environmental Economics Course at the HIID, Harvard.

Oesha S I Thakoerdin

Oesha S. I. Thakoerdin, co-founder of WEnergy Global, brings in over 25 years of experience in sustainable (urban) development, low-emission (carbon) and climate-resilient development in Asia, The Netherlands, Israel and the Palestinian Territories. She has experience across different sectors, such as energy, water supply, sanitation, solid waste and transport, and across different geographical and administrative levels. She worked with large Dutch consultancy firms and with multilateral development banks including the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank as a Senior Urban Development Specialist respectively as A Senior Urban Climate Change Specialist. She served as Senior Manager of the R&D Program on Urban Prototyping (on smart city concepts) of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and as the Regional Policy Coordinator with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of the Ministry of National Development of Singapore. More recently she was assigned to the Asian Development Bank’s Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund, supporting the trust fund’s disbursement and results delivery, from a systems-thinking approach in infrastructure investments from a climate resilience framework in Asian countries, with a focus on Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and the Philippines. She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning and Design of Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, was trained at LEAD Europe in Leadership for Sustainable Development, and is a Certified GRI/G4 Sustainability Reporting Specialist.

Atem S Ramsundersingh

Atem S. Ramsundersingh, founder and CEO of WEnergy Global, brings in over 30 years of international experience and knowledge about business and project development in emerging economies and in complex multi-stakeholders negotiations and decision-making. He worked with the World Bank Group as a Senior Programme Manager in reforming the water sector in several countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. As the former CEO of a Malaysian public listed conglomerate, operating from Singapore and China, he expanded his experience in Asia in industrial/equipment process and project management, supply chain and quality management, utility operations, financing, deal structuring and commercialization of businesses. He was a Progamme Director with UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water and Environment (Delft, The Netherlands) for over 10 years, during which he contributed to the formulation and adjustments of national strategies for water and environmental management in countries in Asia, Africa and Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. He is a member of the Board of Director of CleanGrid Partners Pte Ltd, a Joint Venture between WEnergy Global and Tokyo Electric Power Corporation PowerGrid Inc. He maintains a vast network of contacts in over 65 countries, including among Multilateral Agencies. He holds a Masters Degree in Infrastructure Planning & Engineering of Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands and has been trained at the Policy Development Academy of the World Bank, Harvard Business School (USA), Cambridge University (UK) and at the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID).

Hartwig J H Westphalen

Hartwig Westphalen, co-founder of WEnergy Global, brings in 35 years of experience in international Technology Business with focus on renewable energy and electronics. During the last 20 years he acted as founder, owner, and CEO of SunEnergy Europe GmbH, a pioneer company for Solar PV applications, initially in Germany and later throughout Europe and worldwide, including engagements in India and Mexico and first steps in Africa. Starting with residential sector systems in 2001 the company´s focus moved to larger applications and initiated and constructed a multifold variety of MW-scale and commercial roof projects in Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Czech Republic, clearly demonstrating that the renewable energy systems could lead towards a fossil free economy. SunEnergy Europe, in collaboration with partners, played a leading role in the introduction of Solar PV in the agricultural sector as well as in community-based projects with multiple local shareholders. Before SunEnergy Europe, he gained extensive experience in technology and management in German and international companies, including Toshiba and Sharp. He started the Photovoltaics business for Sharp in Europe in 1992. He gained his academic education and scientific experience in the fields of Astrophysics and Space Physics at the University of Kiel, Germany, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1981. Along with his first steps as an entrepreneur he won a start-up competition in Northern Germany with a Photovoltaics market introduction concept in 1998. In 2013 he received the German Renewables Award for his life achievement.

Shinichi Imai

Shinichi Imai, brings in over 20 years of international experience and knowledge about electric power system & protection engineering, asset management and standardisation through IEEE, Cigre, IEC, and the international consortium of GO15 (former VLPGO) and International Utility Working Group. He brings in extensive experience in business and project development in the area of electricity transmission, distribution, smart grid and smart community in Asian and European markets. He was formerly the Executive Managing Director of Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO) Power Grid, Inc.. He was also President & Director of Greenway Grid Global Pte Ltd in Singapore, which is a Joint Venture Company of TEPCO Power Grid, ICMG, and Chubu Electric Corporation (Nagoya, Japan).
Mr Shinichi Imai is currently Chief Technology Officer with Takaoka Toko Co. Ltd. He holds a Masters Degree in Electric Engineering of Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, and is a certified Professional Electrical Engineering (PE) of the State of California, USA.

Jaffe Lau Yu
