The Panlaitan clean microgrid project is the first QTP in the Busuanga Municipality, Palawan, the Philippines. The project is set up under the Archipelago Renewables Corporation (“ARC”), a company supported by WEnergy Global through the contribution of technical and financial expertise..
Barangay Panlaitan is located in Talampulan Island with a population of around 2,550 people or approximately 800 small and medium off-takers. The need for a 24×7 supply of electricity is extremely important in realizing these economic potentials and improve the living standards of its residents.
The project will include 662 kWp Solar PV, 420 kW diesel generators, 870 kWh of battery capacity and 5-km of smart microgrid distribution system which will provide clean electricity to the island 24×7. This project strives to achieve approx. 46% solar energy in the mix in its microgrid on an average over its lifetime, thus utilizing a locally available resource in a cost-effective way for the benefit of the consumers, and reducing the need to import diesel. The total CO2 savings is 12,500 tons in 20 years.
The project is expected to be constructed this 2020.
